Default R/T Ecu swap, is it worth it, what are the issues?

I've got a modified 02 sport with 3.92 rear and all the normal performance mods, the computer from that year had no mopar performance option so I never addressed it.
Now I see an 01 R/T 5.9 ecu available. Are they year specific like I saw on one post or will this plug and play. Mileage issues?

If the year thing is correct will an 02 Durango R/T work as well and what will it gain me versus.....what are my options without sending it off for flashing for 5 times the cost.
I see computer rebuilders online that will set your mileage and vin, that seems odd. Will the R/T gain me anything and will it mess up anything?

This is a repost with more info and questions, I couldnt find my previous post so I figured only one guy saw it and responded.
