How long is the stock shaft? The one on the Dakota I just bought is missing. The truck is lifted so I want to make sure a stock one will fit before I dig one out of a bone yard.
are you awd or 4wd? the main difference in length is manual trans to auto trans, but as i found the awd is slightly shorter than 4wd. we are talking .5- .75 of an inch.
If its a body lift or torsion bar crank stock length will be all u need
I have only messed with solid axle and Ford twin "I" beam, what do I need to look for to determin what kind of lift is on it, I know there is a body lift and a block on the rear axle
Since its an 02 it could be a suspension lift I believe...if it is there would be drop brackets on the front diff..post up some pics of the front suspension
I got under it today, the spindles look stock, so I would guess torsion lift. I would guess 3" since there is a 2" block on the back and it rides level .... there is also a 2" body lift on it
Im in a similar situation; When i got my Dakota, it had a 3" body lift, and the torsion bars are cranked with blocks in the back. But that caused my front half shaft on the passenger side to be too short. Right now I'm stuck between paying $650 for longer, custom made shafts, or just taking the blocks out and loosening the torsion bar so stock length shafts will work. That option will probably run me about $200-$300. Thoughts?
Yes, the shaft was stock length. and it popped out one day when i was off road. It would work fine until i put it in 4x4 and took it off road and under a little stress, then it popped out. I just don't get it..
