Default 98 Dakota enhancement questions

All,

I am proud owner of a "paid-for" 98 Dakota. The power plant is the 3.9L and the truck has 132K miles. It does not smoke or rattle, so I thought I might like to squeeze a little more out of the motor.

What kinds of mods could I do to the 98 to enhance performance, gas mileage, and over-all appearnace? I have looked at Jegs and Summit, but I'm just not quite sure what I am looking for or at.

Lastly, both of my power mirrors split down the middle during a cold winters ice scrapping, and I was wondering if anyone has a bead on replacements (Dodge dealer price was outragious)?

Johnnie

Just get a K&N FIPK or Airiad intake (like I have) and a Gibson cat-back exhaust. If you wanna go a little farther I think they have headers

I wouldn't buy anything form ebay but if you want to go for it also you can check out partstrain.com for the mirrors.

I just picked up a brand new fan shroud for my 98 (3.9L) and I was wondering if the fan will have to come off to replace it? I can bust the old one to get it out as it is broken anyways...any pointers would greatly appreciated.

im not sure but i dont think you have to take off the fan. its a fan shroud. mine just goes over the fan. if it were a bmw you would have to pull the motor and the fan shroud would have cost you 5,000$

if your gonna have to break the old one to get it out, think, you might have to break the new one to get it in, dont be a hack!!!!! drain the coolant and pull the radiator, thats the only way to do it, besides if you mess up the fan, theres more money, and hassle

Yes you'll have to pull the fan. The best way is to borrow a special fan removal tool from the auto store.
