Default Oil pressure?

My '97 5.2L is ony showing about 20-25 pounds of oil pressure, just above the first hash mark, but not close the the 40 psi mark. I am running 5W-30 synthetic oil. Seems low and does not appear to change with rpms. Bad sending unit? Where is the sending unit on this engine.

Thanks all.

I would do a manual test first before changing the sensor.

Could be bad bearings or oil pump, but anything above 10psi should be ok for the 5.2 and 5.9 motors.

I know mine is the sensor.. slightest rise in temps seems to make the sensor MIA. Oil Pressure is good on Mech gauge. Seems common problem i'm always reading about..
