Rear end is junk.

well u could also use a chain wrench and a 1/2 ratchet to get pinion nut off, carrier does have to come out, Just checked 2000 Field Serv Manual section 3.77 thru 3.79 (THANX Forums) and pinion bearing is pressed on, and bearing cup is prolly bad too..Doesn't seem real expensive just alot to do

$1000. It was expensive but I really had no other choice. I hate going to mechanics but like I said before, I live in an apartment now with absolutely no where to work on my truck and only the tools in my tool box. I just moved here to Plattsburgh, NY and don't know any of the mechanics around here.

Yeah, like I said, I had no choice. I think it's a little steep too but then again they did replace all the bearings in the rear end and I know that's labor intensive which is what a large portion of the bill was. I couldn't drive it anymore, the whole rear end was about to grenade. I drove it way too long the way it was lol.

Also, I rather pay $1000 for it to be done right than $600-$700 for it to be done wrong. I'm not saying I know it was done right because I really don't. It sounds quite and drives so much smoother and as long as it stays that way for the duration of time I own the truck, I'll be happy. It's still a lot of money, but if it runs correctly, it's easier for me to swallow.
