Exclamation HELP PLEASE HELP.. I have a 2003 dodge dakota with a cluster that wont work???

Hi guys I have a 2003 dodge dakota that had the 3.9, Recently I swapped a 318 out of a 98 durango. I had the motor sent off bored over .30 ported polished decked and honed. The truck is running great but my cluster does not work. The dealership found me a PCM computer out of a 98 ram which is working. Im getting the usual all the lights come on the dash then the dreaded "no bus". Ive been told that there is a problem in my ccd and that possibly the buses could be divorced??? Just need some help as i am supposed to be moving across the country for school in three short weeks and no gauges.... PLEASE HELP..

Welcome to DodgeForum!
I'm moving this to the 2nd gen Dakota section, hopefully someone here will have an idea. This post will also serve to bump the thread so it gets noticed.

The problem is likely the 98 ram PCM. What bus design is it using?

Dodge changed the computer bus in 2001 on the Dakota/Durango. Before that it was a 2 wire CCD bus. In 2001 it went to a single wire PCI bus.

The instrument cluster is a computer itself. They won't be able to communicate over the different buses.

I'd probably try a PCM from an '03 5.9l

Hey thank you for the reply!! I will definatley look into that. I think the dealer was having a problem finding one close to my year with no skimms or alarm as my Dakota is a base model no power windows, locks, cruise, or alarm. The alarm seemed to be the issue the dealership said..
