That switch was changed in different years for different models, the dakotas the change was in 99, for the rams it was in 99, for the durango it was always standard I believe.

(sorry for the glare, had to clean it off with some WD40 to even look at it)
I dont think that is the right plug since it is near the engine side of the radiator , it`s for the outside air temp sensor that would bolt up in front of the radiator support behind the grill next to the pass headlight ,,, there should be plug in connectors , one on each side , taped up to the outside of the wireing harness around where the frame and the wheelwell meet under the front bumper , in behind the general area where the fog lights would be located .

here is an actual switch that i assume would be in that location since i can't find a dash picture with a stock one installed.

you are correct , the fog light switch is separate from the headlight switch on the `97 , and it is the one you show from the e-bay ad , and it goes right where the square plug is currently located ,,, if you want to check to see if the wireing is there for the switch and have tilt wheel , drop it down as low as it will go and then gently pry up a corner on the instrument cluster bezel at around the radio area first then pull it towards you in a even manner around the bezel untill you can pull it off and away from the dash ( a haynes manual comes in real handy for a more descriptive content on this procedure ) but it`s easy to do ,, anyways ,, look behind where the light switch and the square plug is there should be an empty plug in connector that plugs into the back of the fog light switch ,, when i pulled mine out to look the connector was attached to the back of the square plug and all i had to do was separate it from there and pushout the dummy square and snap in the new fog switch and then the wireing plug and re-install the bezel to the dash ,,, it was really that easy !!

Smile thats great

I always wondered what that fake button was for in my dash now I know fog lights switch.

My Dakota has the wiring already for the fogs just sitting up front waiting for some bulbs to get plugged in.

Are the wires up under the dash ready to go I guess also? Never looked but Im assuming they are there.

They "should" be there and ready to go if you already have the factory installed wireing in the front ,, mine was ,, dont forget that you still have to add the relay to it`s spot at the power dist center under the hood
