Default quick clean on TB?

i am changing my plugs right now. i have 4 done. i am noticing alot of black sooty stuff around the outer edge of the butterfly, and black as can be when i peer in it. question.... can i just spray some carb cleaner down it or do i need to remove the tb? if just spraying will do, do i run it at that time and work the throttle by hand or leave the engine off and start it later? or i will just leave well enough alone(it runs fine).

Default Yes do it

Yes you can just spray down it as the engine is running I would just start light, Spraying and letting it sit will not work so well that stuff evaporates ASAP seconds this will clean it somewhat. I think throttle body spray may be a better choice regular carb spray may damage some seals.

Best to use caution carb spray may damage the IAC

To tell you the truth they may be the same exact stuff but I would get the throttle body spray to be sure.

You will want to get Throttle Body Cleaner it is special, do not use carb cleaner. What I use is use a screw driver on the linkage to hold the TB open, I spray the cleaner in it, use rags, q tips, whatever to clean it. I always pull my IAC out and clean it to.

Don't spray alot down the the throttle body, I spray a little, and then some on a rag, and start wiping.

cool, thanks guys! i think i may leave it alone for now. next week i will have the time to take off the tb and sensors and let it soak and get in there real good with rags and such. time for reassembly and test run with the new plugs. thanks again.

Default If you have the time

If you have the time pulling it out is best always use caution cleaning the IAC only hand clean it with Q-tips you can damage them spraying directly on them

When you take the IAC out make sure to clean where that sits real good. Thats where mine had the most black soot and probably the reason why I had to change my IAC. Also I used carb cleaner on mine the guy at the local auto parts store said it'd be fine, hopefully I didnt mess anything up.
