Default bad fan clutch?

have a 2004 3.7 v6 auto. A/C doesn't blow cold when idling and truck overheats when idling as well. Driving around car stays at normal temp and a/c is fine.
When cold, fan doesn't free spin, but it offers VERY little resistance.
Tried moving it back and forth and it doesn't have excessive play
either. Any ideas?

IF the fan spins freely then yes, you have a bad fan clutch.

Not sure on an '04 but in '00 the fan clutch should stop within 5 turns when cold.

You should have an electric fan. Is it running when the a/c is on?

Make sure there are no blockages in front of the condenser, is it dirty? Lots of bugs, etc?
