r&r rear diff 02 dakota loose still won't come out !
I have 02 Dakota 4 x 4 ext cab 4.7.
The rear diff was making a groaning noise when turn a tight turn. Took a look in side, and found the one set of clips that hold the clutch pack in place, They were broke and out of place.
These are the clips that isolate the clutch disc's from wearing out the case. Just a few pieces , stuck to the magnet.
Have taken the carrier bolts and caps off. The carrier starts coming out, but stops. The axles are removed. Does the speed sensor have to be removed ?
What am I missing ? The case is lose on the carrier, moves in and out, till it contacts something. Does not bind, just stops.
Thank you for any enlightenment !

OK ! I Got it !
Noticed theirare internal side to side spanners nut.
After a pondering, I notice the access to them threw what the use to be case spreader holes. A few taps with very small drift. Spun 'em back out of the way.
Just have to redue side to side, in order to get back to proper wear pattern'
Hope this my save other's grief, if this come up.

I made my own by welding a socket to a large nut. Then, I use a long extension and go in through the axle bearings. If you really want to make it easy, get two of those tools so you don't have to keep switching from side to side.
