i want to put a flowmaster series 40 muffler in place of the stock. It says its made for my make model and year however its only 13.5in length and the stock is 24in... so i need an extensions of some sort? also is it okay to just clamp it all together or do i need a sealant or gaskets of some sort? never done this before any advice will help

Just go to a local auto store and get a length of pipe and 2 couplers in the size of your pipe (should be 2.5") ]. You can clamp it all together but get stainless clamps if you live in a northern area or somewhere that gets snow, regular will rust right through over winter. At least mine did anyways. Even if you wanted just clamp the muffler to the pipe coming from the engine and be done with it, so long as its not near the tire, i dont have tail pipe on my glass pack.

You're going to have to cut it. Crappy u-bolt clamps pinch the pipe together and make removal impossible. That's just how working on exhaust is.

I just going to to cut the pipes I have to put an extension in anyway so it's not a big deal. But where should I put the extension? Towards the front or back of the truck? So extension the muffler or muffler then extension to the existing pipe?

There maybe a heat shield above the old muffler. If not just look for the best area, it really won't make a difference.
