Default SAS swap

So I've decided to do a SAS swap on the old dak. Gotta save some money first(expensive up here in Canada) but want to start buying parts as I can afford them. Any ideas on what kind of axles, ford, chev, dodge? What about transfer case, mines electric shift. I've read many forums on the web from other swaps, so many different set-ups and configurations, just looking to get some feedback from true dak owners. Also would my 3.9 be strong enuff to turn the new axles and tires? Any info would be appreciated...cheers

Ford (all years) axles will work. You should not have to change out your t-case.

We had a jeep with a 4.0 ho with ford 1 ton axles and 3.55 gears on 38.5 it wound turn the tires with no problem so if you gear it right the 3.9 will be fine.

First of all what is your plans for your truck?

Do some mild offroading?
Doing it for looks or just more lift?
Doing rock crawling?

What size tires you want to run?
What suspension style do you want to run?

Thanks for the reply Crazy4x4RT, your rig is awesome! I belong to a 4wd club so I want to use the truck for some serious 4wheeling. As it sits rite now its hard to keep up on some of the runs we do, ground clearance is an issue as well as wheel slippage. Looking to go with ford axles, Dana 44 on the front and 60 in back. Question is what gear ratio? I have a buddy who owns a suspension shop that will do most of the work with me. I'd like to run 38's or 40's on the truck depends on the gearing. What suspension is better/easier, coil or leaf? Will the steering box need to come from a ford if I use ford axles? Should the front axle be moved forward and why? Any brackets, gussets or plates I can make at work along with any bending that is required. So many questions, this is my first attempt at a project of this magnitude so any advice is greatly appreciated...

Thanks.

If your planning on 38's-40's your going to need Dana 60's front and rear. As for gears you will need to spend some time with some looking at some gear charts and do some math for RPM's at certain speeds and see what you like.

As for suspension leaf springs are easier to setup. But a coil 4 link system can produce way more articulation.

You will break a 44 axles with 38s or 40s even with the 3.9 so go dana 60 as crazy said.
