Default Need Help - front dif bolt

Hi guys,

need help with changing the oil on my front dif. Im trying to take off the cover but can't get at the 2 bolts on the very top of the pumpkin. I can get a socket over them with my hand but not with a socket. I can get a wrench over it but when i try to turn it the wrench is right on the dif so I can't pull down.

the picture there is the view of the front dif from the bottom, right dead center of the picture are the 2 bolts i can't budge... don't think you can see them but i just wanted to give you an idea of which ones i cant budge.

the truck is on the ground right now, would it easier to get them off with it supported by jackstands?

thank you

Update: I finally got everything off but while i was reinstalling I definately got some black RTV on the teeth of the gears... is this gonna be okay?

The front dif has like 2 inches max of room to get it back on compared to the rear dif i kno that. Will the rtv on the teeth just dissolve over time or should this be something to be worried about.

i really don't see how you could get it back on without smearing some on the gears that buldge out over the heavy duty area.

please let me know!

Thank you!

I actually just did my front dif a few weeks ago and yeah it was a pain, I know those 2 bolts you speak of.

Don't worry, the little bit of RTV you got on your dif teeth will just fall off, I had the same problem but I had an issue getting the hose off on the front, I had to cut it off.

The front is definately alot more work then the rear.
