Steering shaft
Has anyone every replace the upper steering shaft? Getting alot of play in the steering wheel. Has new bottom shaft.ball joints, tierods in and out ,hub bearings, control arms, rack bushings.
search the forums i have seen a thread on this somewhere's... here's a few on this https://dodgeforum.com/forum/search....archid=4047255
when i was asking around about mine at the autoparts store. he showed me a doughnut looking gasket. my 97 dak has a different setup, but my 01 durango has it. it is located next to the fire wall in the engine compartment.
it wasn't that expensive and didn't look that hard to change. might be worth a shot.

Check on gasket thing but find a pic of the shaft. Just a rod connecting the steering wheel to the lower shaft and what may be considered a rag joint half way up. No u-joints or anything.
hate to say this but did ya call the dealer?? and how much more work is involved in replacing said gasket vs the whole shooting match?? I see the gasket on the shaft you are referring to, and keep in mind those lil u-joints wear out too, Once and done is my motto, wife had a shop do hers, while i was out of town and the darn thing handles and steers like a sports car

I am still looking and reading. The pic that I posted is suppose to be a 2wd but 4wd looks pretty close to it. Were the gasket is and rag looking joint actually may be a bearing.
