Default ps leak

Hello all.

New here. I have a 97 3.9l 4*4 5speed dakota sport reg cab.

I have a p/s leak coming from the line that starts on the passenger side rack and stops under the air filter box. What the heck is this line? And what is the purpose of a dead end line? Possibly a vent?

Thanks

yes it is a vent for front diff or transfer case as far as power steering line prolly the high pressure hose leaking they do that, only option replace, or see if it's got a worn o-ring on it, I know here's one on power steering end of that hose

Are you sure you have a steering rack? My '97 doesn't. And are you sure it's power steering fluid? Because what you're describing sounds like the front axle vent hose. It would be leaking gear oil, if anything.

Just replaced the pressure hose on my 4.7. Near the pressure switch there was a metal coupler and it started leaking around it. I know ours are setup different but hopefully this will give you a idea.

Well guys I made my first post and totally made a fool of myself. Yes the line is from the front axel and is a vent. And yes the fluid is in fact gear oil. I should have recognized the smell of gear oil when I first saw the leak. I actually smelled it at that point and for some reason thought it was ps fluid. Anyhow the previous night and day I parked on a very steep slope with the passenger front corner at the lowest point and that must have allowed the gear oil up in the vent line. I really appreciate your replies and time.

Thanks
