Default Wanting to modify my Dakota Sport.

I live in the Sierra Vista, Tucson area. I inherited a 2000 Dakota Sport from my dad and would like to refurbish and upgrade it. Does anyone know a good place to take it for some of the bigger tasks?

lordboboinsd, what are you aiming for in terms of upgrades? what kind of truck do you have, besides a sport. ie engine, 2wd/4wd, etc.

Default my plan

I currently have a V6. The truck needs more work then its really worth. I've got a compressioin leak, a power steering leak, a clogged heater core, and can't drive uphill faster then 35 mph. I want to start by fixing these issues. I plan on putting in a body life and repainting it. With the current transmission I'm running in 5th gear by 35 mph, is there a way to change this?

3.9 or 3.7? Have you done a leak down test? Might just be worth it to do a rebuild. I assume you have automatic since you're in 5th at 35mph, right?

Check compression on all your cylinders.Look for leaking head gasket.Rebuild may be in order.

Here is something to try that is simple and cheap.

Pull all your spark plugs remember were each wire goes now pour about 2 oz. of mmo in each sparkplug hole with a funnel hand crank the engine over a few times let sit for 1 hour repeat always add 2 more oz. of mmo on last one pour the mmo in but don’t turn it over now let sit overnight.

Install all sparkplugs and wires start it up.

The mmo will free up any stuck piston rings if stuck and give you back the power you lost if it was stuck rings that is.

Worth a try and cheap $5 just a little work

mmo is Marvel Mystery Oil at most walmarts
