Default something to look at

This may not be it in whole but if never replaced on a 98 I would do it a very overlooked simple part.

The part is the (Distributor Ignition Pickup) they say if it goes bad you just loose spark and nothing other than that, but I replaced my pickup and she has ran better for it.

As I say if never replaced I would do it.

If not pop off the cap and rotor and get a good look inside of the thing you may be surprised at what you find my pickup was looking kind of worn-out and had all kinds of dirt and junk sticking to it.

My pickup surface looked like it had been sandpapered down and was showing a white substance under the black that had been worn off the pickup was probably ready to go.

Default All it takes is a hair off

Just looking at it will not cost you anything clean it up the magnet tends to get small metal shards on them they get fuzzy. This can toss the thing off even if it shows the 5 volt sweep get it. All it takes is a hair off

You have tried the usual stuff correct then look for the unusual offbeat stuff do you want suggestions or not?

When you did plug/wire, did you do the distributor cap and coil wire?

My truck was playing hard to start and sporadically losing power and would completely shut down while driving. Replaced all 6 plug wires, nothing. Went to change the distri cap, and the coil wire came apart in my hands when I went to take it off. New coil wire + dizzy cap, runs just fine now.

Another suggestion a weak fuel pump low pressure or worn timing chain

Hey the crank sensor is also a Hall effect deal as well if I'm not mistaken I wonder if that could be all buggered up with metal shavings as well

Worth checking out it could be all dirty but my understanding is these can be a bear getting out some get rusted in like a rock. I wanted to get a look at my crank sensor for a year now just keep forgetting to do it even though with the 2.5 they are very easy to get at.

Did you get a look at the (Distributor Ignition Pickup) yet? They just lift up and out after you remove the rotor.
