Default Odd Blinker Problem

The truck is a 2000 quad cab Dodge Dakota 4x4. The driver side blinker works fine most of the time. The passenger side blinker blinks fast and one bulb in the front does not blink. That bulb does not blink with hazards, either. However, that bulb works fine with parking lights on. Sometimes whichever blinker being used will quit working altogether. I must reactivate the blinker again to get it working.

I did some searching on this and I found something saying the hazards and turn signals uses the same flasher, fuses, and wiring. This leads me to the conclusion that it could be the flasher that malfunctions. Is this what other people think as well?

Is this the flasher indicated by the red circle? I have identified everything else in the fuse panel. If it is, I'm not sure how to remove it.

That's the horn relay.

There is another block attached to that block, under the instrument panel. The flasher is located there.

It sounds like you have a bad ground more than a problem with the flasher. The clue is that one bulb is acting funny. They are all wired in parallel so they should all "misbehave."

It could also be a bad splice, maybe near the cruise control servo inside the fender opening.

Ah, I found that one on the other side buried in wires. If it were a ground issue, wouldn't the bulb not work with the parking lights on as well?

Something I forgot to mention earlier is that the blinkers were blinking at a normal rate before that bulb quit flashing, but would still randomly quit blinking.

Sometimes the bulb can "seek" ground through other circuits. You can have all sorts of weird things happen.

Check the bulbs and the grounds. It's an electronic flasher and seldom needs replacement.

the reason it works for parking circuit- ask me how I know- it's a 2 circuit bulb. Only 1 of the 2 filaments has burned out.

In that case I'll swap that one with a working bulb to confirm it.

The bulb works fine, but it must have been bumped loose. It's blinking at a normal rate again. I'll have to drive around and see if the blinkers still randomly shut off on both sides.

I have the same issue with mine. I pushed in the harness to the bulb at the pass. side, and it worked fine again. Then it came loose or whatever again. Strange.....

Ive notice my blinkers being goofy on the flash rate as well. Sometimes its normal then shifts to super fast rate. Sometimes
it goes straight to super fast rate when first activated. Ive just recently started driving this truck daily since I got it in November.

This morning on the way to work I activate right turn signal to have a normal rate then as I turn it kicks in to high rate. When I get to
my parking spot I activate the right signal again to have it begin in high rate speed. I get out to see the rear lamp is flashing. I had to get on in
so I didnt look directly to the front lamp. Thats the exploration for the weekend.
