Default Transfer case
Do the early models of Dakota's have a problem with the transfer case. 4.7 manual shift to 4 wheel.

Manual shift tcases are all mechincal pretty much so nothing to go wrong with them. Just a few gears and a big *** chain.

Thanks I had a 2000 quad cab and the tcase exploded and had to get a rebuilt.

Pretty much only two things wreck them:

1. Running out of oil
2. Driving in 4wd on dry pavement.
