hey im new to these forums. and i am need help to gain some mpg. right now im getting about 12-13 city, 15-17 on high way, so idk if that normal for a 2000 dodge dakota 4.7 4x4 4 door with 31s.
Im thinking of doing a flowmaster 40 muffler, k&n filter, and in the future a superchips programmer. should i do the programmer first before everything else?

 

I had an 06 Ram and added a Flowmaster and K&n and honestly the mpg boost was negligable... I truely didn't see much of a difference... so you are probably better off with the supercharger... I was able to boost my mpg (at least on the hwy) by watching my mpg indicator and matching it to my speed and setting cruise.. lol sounds like a pain in the *** but I went from 15-17 hwy to 21 by doing that.

Btw, I haven't seen a Superchip for the 4.7...can I get a link to that....lol. It's probably just me being stupid and never seeing it.

 

One of easiest mods is removing the clutch fan. It takes some drag of the motor. It will gain little but not very much but every little bit helps.

I would do exhaust and intake before the tuner. You need to be able to get more air in and out for a tuner to work fully. Go get a cheap cai off ebay and you can just ditch your muffler for a magna flow or flowmaster. Then I would go the route of sct tuner for best hp and mpg gain. Your not going to gain any more than about 1-2mpg. You are pretty close to the top of your numbers now.

 

would running 91 octane fuel boost mpg?

 

Back when I had my 5.2 I ran a sct tuner on the 93 octane tune and ran 89 gas. I never saw anymore improvement in mpg with 91/93 vs 89. Plus it being only .10 more then reg it was only costing me 2.00 more to fill my tank. So it wasnt that bad. I would try it for a tank or 2 and see if it help you out any
