pinion seal.
I need to put a pinion seal in, Just how much fun will this be? I have a 2003 with 53.000 miles on it. Is this normal to leak at 53.000 miles.? OR it just one of them things,? What company part has anyone used.I check rock auto parts . Man they have a lot of dif, ones, and the prices do vary,
I bought the part for my truck from Napa. It's actually not that bad....the tough part is just getting the nut off. After taking off the driveshaft, the book said to use a chain wrench to hold the flange in place. Wasn't so sure how they planned on it coming off using just hands. I tightened the chain wrench on the flange and used my floor jack to apply the pressure. I got my breaker bar on the nut and used my foot and it didn't take too much to get it off, actually. 32mm was the size of the nut on my 9.25" differential. Once all that was off...just a matter of using a hammer and a flat head screwdriver to take the old seal off...or rather...what was left of it. The rubber actually split off of the metal housing on the old seal. Pretty simple process nonetheless.
+1 on the impact wrench. Makes the job a piece of cake. Be careful when you install the yoke not to overtighten it and compress the crush sleeve any more than it already was. Pretty hard to do that byhand, but pretty easy with an impact wrench. The best way is to torque it to spec (I don't remember what that is) with a torque wrench.
