gear experts needed!!!
I'm afraid my rearend is going out! I've got a 2002 3.9 sport rc with manual trans and 47k on it and haven't had any problems (except ball joints) till about a month ago and i'm still trying to figure it out. I've got kind of a shuddering or maybe more so like chattering but it's not loud. It's coming right up the drivetrain, at least that how it feels. Here's the thing. It will only do it (and not all the time) when pulling out and more so when i'm pulling out into a right or left turn and only in first gear. I can get it to do it when in first gear like in a parking lot around 5mph while making left and right turns. At first I though maybe it was front bearings but they're fine! If this is my rear differential wouldn't it do it in all gears and even coasting in neutral? It almost feels like the pressure plate is slipping but it continues to do it after the clutch is engaged and the clutch does not slip on highway. I've read tons of posts on other sites with people experiencing this same symptoms. Also I wanted to ask if anyone gets a lot of "slapping" in their clutch housing when you disengage your clutch suddenly. It's done it from new. Is this characteristic of these clutches on dodges? I'm changing my differential oil this weekend. It has not been done yet. I hope maybe just the anti slip is chattering or something simple but I know it's in the drivetrain somewhere. I have extended warranty so if it is anything major it should be covered. Unfortuneately, till they find the problem i have to foot the labor bill and if they don't find anything then i'm out the money. All help would be extremely appreciated
do you have limited slip diff? and have you recently had your fluid in diff change? If yes to both possible wrong fluid or no friction modifier was added to fluid. this can cause a low speed chatter slow speed or from dead stop. note if right fliud and modifier is correct. and it is limited slip chatter the diff clutch pack has to to be removed and soaked in modifier
than reinstalled. had a few of these problems with ford 9:25 rear diffs with trac lock diffs! from 10,000 to 20,000 miles
