Default Hydraulic Control Unit thread Stripped

Hello All,
I just replaced all my brake lines in my 02 Dakota. I was flaring my last brake line that goes to the Hydraulic Control Unit and it seems that I somehow stripped the thread inside the HCU. The flare nut will tighten, but once I get towards the correct torque, the nut just breaks loose. I was just going to replace the whole damn thing, but I can't seem to find the part. I did see one in eBay, but it was around $300. Can't spend that much.

Has anyone run into this before? Is this something that can ce retapped or helicoiled? I was thinking of even bringing it to a machine shop.

Thanks!

I think it's aluminum, definitely not brass in color.

Sorry, had to bump. I haven't had much time over the past couple of months to work on this. However, for some reason, I cannot remove the HCU. The nuts just keep turning and never loosen. I thought this thing was attached to the frame via a stud and nut? Are you supposed to rip the fender off to get to the head of the bolt as well?

Also, does any one know if the HCU can be bypassed? Seems to me that it could be possible just to union the two lines together. However, I don't know if something like this is feasible in the stupid Chrysler braking system.

Thanks

Hummm, I'd just worry that it would give out at some point. I've ghetto-rigged a lot of stuff on my cars in my life, but I always try to stay extra careful with brakes.

i definately would not advise jb weld on threads, it will not hold the pressure.. i had to do a few mods to my brakes. i will re-assemble that system, and try to identify what i bypassed and what i didnt.. i think i have both front and rear coming directly off the master cylender. i will post on MY personal server and the images can be seen at www.mydakotabuild.com/brakes that page will be up at 4pm Eastern Time.

Do you mean the 4WAL ABS controller under the battery?

If so, yes you can bypass it. Is it advisable, not really.
