NV-231 4WD Operating Light Out
I have an old '97 Sport Club Cab V6 A/T 4X4 with the part-time nv231 transfer case, and for the last 5 years the 4wd operating light, located in the floor shifter bezel doesn't illuminate when the transfer case lever is placed in 4H or 4L.The 4wd seems to work fine but the light doesn't show the driver if the truck's in 4wd.Is it just a bulb I assume, and how do I remove the bezel to access it?Or does it have to do with the transfer case switch that's nearly impossible to get to without dropping the TC?
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.I tried an exhaustive search here but couldn't turn up anything.

Its prob just burnt out. Try a gauge check. Hold the trip/odo button in while you turn the truck to the on position. If it works the gauge will go through a test of everything. See if it pops on then. If not you will have to pull the bezel off it just pulls off. It will take a little bit of pulling to get it off. Usually I put the truck into 1st(dont forget to put the parking brake on) and move the steering wheel down as far as it will go. Once you got it off disconnect the fog switch if you have one and then it will be free. There is 6 screws(I think) that hold the gauge cluster in.When you pull it out you have to be careful of your PRND indicator. Im not sure if you have to take it off. You might be able to get to the bulb without disconnecting it
Sorry I missed that part thought you meant the 4wd leaver was on the floor. I forgot that the 97s had the light next to the 4wd shifter. Well then im not sure if it would turn on when the key it turned on anyway. My 98 was on my dash. For that piece. Take off the little pen holder thing(not the black square, its the oval piece closest towards the seats) It just pulls off. There will be 2 screws down in there. Take those out then just pull up on the front of it(towards the dash) it will pop off. You should be able to access the light now.
