Default differantial noise

I have a 02 Dakota Sport 3.9 L 2WD Extended Cab with 34 K miles on it (bought it new). I had the ball joints, sway bar and A arm bushings replaced by the dealer as part of warranty. The front end feels really tight now and the truck runs great, but lately (a month or so ago) I started hearing grinding noise from the rear end when turning left or right at slow speed (5mph or so). It is not there when going on straight line or increased speed. In the 30 k mile service the oil level in the differential was marked OK on the check list. Any one has simillar experiance ?

sounds like axle bearings or possible carrier bearings.

My transmission needed to be tightened. At the oil change before the 30K I told them about a grinding and cluncking noise coming from (what sounded like) the rear. It was mainly on turns but sometimes on take offs from green lights. Well long story short they couldn't "reproduce the sound and told me it was nothing. It got worse so 1500 mile after that i brought it back they said it was a "normal noise". Well then came my 30,000 mile and they guy wrote on the form "transmission lose required tighting" and the truck hasn't made a sound since!

Hey, It seems the problem you were experiencing was the clutches chattering in the rear end. They had fixed the problem by adding friction modifier to it. This is needed for posi track, or limited slip type rears. Hope this helped
