Default will 16x12 rims fit on my truck??

i have a 2001 dakota, and im looking into getting some mickey thompson classic beadlock rims for it. i like the look of the wider rim and tire so i want it wider than the usual 16x8. 16x12 is as wide as they sell them and im wondering if theyll fit with no problems or not. i have the standard six lug axles not sure if thats important or not. write me back soon.

Depends on backspacing, tire size, and whether or not you want to turn.

I pity the poor tire guy who has to try and seat the beads on those tires. They would be much better suited to 8" wide rims.

265mm = 10.5" width sidewall to sidewall. And you want to put these on 12" wide rims? AND turn/fit them on the truck?

I don't say this often. But you have no idea what you're talking about.

I think the OP meant, he'd just mount the 265/75 on the standard 8" rim.

My assumption....

Your first problem is that these trucks will not take wider than a 9" rim legally. You can go to a 12", but you'll need a very specific backspacing (see: likely a custom rim) and 3" fender flares. Also note that the dakota is a 6 lug pattern, which almost ensures that you'll be needing a custom wheel.

After you get custom 12" wide rims made, you'll need to lift the truck to make any kind of wide tire fit. An LT305/70/16 is 32.8" tall with a 12" wide sidewall (would barely seat to a 12" wide rim and needs a 2" body lift), an LT315/75/16 is 12.4" wide on the sidewall and 34.6 inches tall and would need a 4" body lift. The only way to get a wide tire under 30" (what will safely fit the stock front fenders) in a wide tire is a 305/55/16 (or maybe a 60 aspect, would be a tight fit though) or 315/55/16.

12" rims are super-wide and are meant for HUGE tires. A 10" wide rim would give you the wide look with anything from about a 285 to a 315 tire. For reference, the tires on my truck are 305/70-16 on 8" rims. No, the rims don't look wide, but the tires don't look crammed on them, either.

First, you should figure out what size tire you want to run (and can fit). Then pick rims that will fit those tires the way you want.
