short trips do it. cold weather and our 3.9 motors dont mix, they are loud and dont perform the best. I would run some cleaner through the gas, check the plugs, coils, some fresh cool air helps and as cliche as it sounds id upgrade to a Cool Air Intake. get one on ebay for cheap. helps let the truck breathe.
Running around in stop and go will kill the mpg. You rarely see a delivery person in anything but a small car. Out of my 98 5.2 I used to see about 250ish miles on a tank. 12-13mpg. The plenum gasket is a common thing to fail on these motors it seeps oil into the intake and causes missing oil, crappy preformance and bad mpg. The way to check it is look down the throttle body with a light and see if you can see puddles of oil laying in the bottom of the intake(small amount of residue is ok) The other thing is you shouldnt have to clean your throttle body that much. I had 96k on my dakota and the throttle body was barely dirty at all. When you clean it do you take the sensors out and used a sensor safe throttle body cleaner on it?
Will do..also as I said before I clean the throttle body once a month but I don't know exactly how to completely take it off and do a detailed job. Any help? lol

Pretty much 4 bolts, few connectors and wires, vacuum lines and throttle cables. Its not a hard job. I suggest you invest in a haynes manual as it will help you out with just about anything you need to do on your truck. About 15-20.00 at the local auto parts store
