loud whinning noise
I have a 1997 dodge dakota v8 mangum i have been having this loud annoying whinning noise coming from underneath the truck by the tranny and i can hear it from inside the truck down by the gear shifter, it only makes the noise when i give it gas ican push in the cluth while driving with no gas and it goes away but if i ouch in the clutch and give it gas it gets loud. i just changed the serpentine belt and tranny and transfer case fluid. help me please
My guess is that it's gear whine or an output/tailshaft bearing.
Did you have it idling in neutral w/ parking brake on while you were under it, or on jackstands in gear [IMO not a smart thing but sometimes necessary]?
i had it in nuetral with parking brake on and a friend giving it gas it got worse when he gave it gas buticouldnt really hear it once it warmed up.

ok, so it makes noise when:
clutch is engaged [input shaft of trans is turning]
trans is in neutral [no gears are meshing]
Trans is cold
Sounds to me like a bearing on the input shaft? The bearing loosens up as it gets hot?
