Check the battery cables carefully. You seem to have a known problem there. A bad ground or other loose connection can cause the regulator to overcharge.
If the cable end is loose, you have a bad connection. Don't use the "bolt-on" style connector, they are temporary at best. The best option is to replace the cable.

Poor decision on my part.

Could you take a few clear pic's of your radiator fan shroud all around it for me please my 98 is way different than the 2000 and up 2.5L Dakotas a few of the front area with the A/C condenser would help also.
A few on how the Rad cap piece mount is attached would help also
I’m in the process of converting all that to what is on your truck modernize it is my goal
As you can see its way different Thanks these would really help me

Ran into a quandary when I got the new battery cable home and compared it to the old.
The secondary wire coming from the new connector is small. The secondary coming from the old connector is the same gauge as the main cable that grounds to the engine. This secondary ground goes to the fender. Do I need a heavy gauge cable to the fender ground? At all? Does it need to be there but I can use a smaller wire or cable?
