If the cable end is loose, you have a bad connection. Don't use the "bolt-on" style connector, they are temporary at best. The best option is to replace the cable.
What I did when I replaced the battery was to cut the old connection off and put one of those type of bolt-on replacement connectors because I didn't have the money or the proper tools to do the job right (was too lazy?) and to follow the cable down under and replace the entire cable.
Poor decision on my part.

I'll be changing my battery cable Saturday and will shoot some pix. But I've seen your engine compartment and it is spotless! Mine will take a lot of Photoshopping to look a tenth as good!!

Ran into a quandary when I got the new battery cable home and compared it to the old.
The secondary wire coming from the new connector is small. The secondary coming from the old connector is the same gauge as the main cable that grounds to the engine. This secondary ground goes to the fender. Do I need a heavy gauge cable to the fender ground? At all? Does it need to be there but I can use a smaller wire or cable?

My cable is like the new one smaller and has never been changed its the original cable.

The second one on my Dak is just a little bit bigger

You do have the newer model 2.5 setup so maybe its needed

I guess now I have to go back to the store and get a short piece to run from the fender and crimp to the new cable? I'll wait around for a while and see if I can get more input.
