Default Bad rust on seal between passenger floor panel and firewall.

Okay so a while back I discovered I have some pretty bad rust between the passenger floor pan and fire wall. How bad you ask? It's a hole in the floor pan lol. I sealed it the best I could to prevent water and what not coming through and it's pretty well protected from the plastic wheel well covers.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this happen before and how much it cost them to replace it.

prolonged heater core leak maybe? AC condensation down the firewall?

No it's really easy to get to.

When you lift up the carpet, It's right where the floor pan meets another panel. It could be the part of the fire wall or the kick panel I've heard some people call it.
The section of the floor that is angled upwards on the floor.

Either way there looks to be a seal where the two meet and in a good sized area has rusted through resulting in a hole in the floor. It's sealed up but still I'll need to replace that.

Yeah I'm fairly confident it was caused from leaking of the AC drain tube. That has been taken care of.

I would say to cut out the rusty section, and pop-rivet a new panel in, ideally weld a panel in, but riveting with a silicone seal should work, too.

I'll for sure be getting the replacement panel welded in.

Just I do not have the time being a full time student and working my butt off on the railroad all summer. Nor do I have the proper tools. I'm just wondering if anyone would know how much it would cost to get it done in a shop.

I hear you. I can't see it being more than 300. The material is cheap, it's not any kind of difficult shape, just the labor of cutting out the old and welding in the new.

Alright thanks!
I'm just trying to figure out what I'll be able to spend on body work this summer and this is defiantly at the top of the list.

This is not my thing but see if you can get a replacement panel cut it to the size you need and braze it in yourself or find a guy in Craig’s list to do it.

I don’t know what size this thing is or if you have any metal supply places but get some sheet metal cut it and fix it the same way a good place to ask about freelance welders also.

It may not be perfect but it’s a fix just paint it or cover it with some good antirust stuff undercarriage paint/tar

A fiberglass patch and bondo may be a good temp fix for a year or two also.
