I off- road quite often and use Rancho 5000 series. Good shock , fairly stiff ride but have stood up to all the abuse I could throw at em.

The Monroe Reflex work well on the Dakota 4x4. It stiffens the ride a bit but I like it so far.

IDK Monroe and KYB are great for cars, I had Monroes on a 2wd Ranger, but it was just a DD not a hauler or off road toy

I had Rancharo 5000 and didnt like them, let alone they messed up on me

The Pro Comp ES9000 I got on it now are BIG the tubes are bigger than the other shocks I seen, they haul well too, and seem to be great off road, but Im not hard core off road. I know that the ride and hauling ability is great on them.
