Default Reverse Drone

Search not really picking anything up. I know I've read it but cant seem to find it..

Looking for the information on what causes the Tranny to drone in reverse.. almost like a pump or something sound.

Mainly when cold and any links to fixing it.

I always thought it was the differential rolling on the coast side of the gear...

The sound; sounds more like a pump; like how a hydraulic or electric pump would sound.. I know when mine does it you can pop it in N or D and then back and the sound will go away.. only does it when she has not quite reached full op temp. (At least I never noticed it when she was warm)

agreed mine makes the same noise only when cold no problems of yet. I do recall late 90's dodge caravan transmissions making a lot of noise and once again no issues so play it by ear it will let you know real quick if something is wrong

Tonight I noticed it was doing it again.. actually what happens is i back out of my garage to let the truck warm up so all the exaust is not trapped in my garage when i close the door; anyways tonight i heard it so i left it in gear for a moment and i could hear want sounded like my breaks.. kinda rolling.. it was very little; almost like i gave it a little gas or something the truck tried to roll.

I sat in R for a few moments then left off the break and she didnt move.. i gave her gas and the engine rev'd but nothing was there then it kicked in and started going..

Dad says he thinks it sounds like the pump.. (Fords have Pumps) do the dodges and where is it?

Thanks.

I guess it’s the year of strange noises I was checking a few things on my Dak as the engine was idling today as I walked around the back I noticed a low volume kind of whining that sounded like it was coming from my transmission dead center of my Dakota.

I only noticed it on my passenger side not sure what that means

Never heard that before and I don’t like it makes me worry

Checked my U-joints a few months ago and they looked ok but they are 15 years old well everything on my Dakota is 15 years old I guess I better crawl under and check them out again
