Price depends on where you live and if you have all the tools you need to do it. Solid axle will run you about a 1,500-2000 just to do it right for the front axle(engine weighs in at almost 1,000lb) You will need a dana 60 front and at least a dana 70 rear axle. Engine alone will run you at least 2,000. Also the other problem is you have to modify the firewall on the dakota to get that huge 5.9 in there. Then you will need a body lift to fit the tranny. Tranny is gonna run you at least a grand. I would call it about 8k. Although its sweet you are better off to sell your truck take your money you would of spent on the swap and just buy a 2nd gen ram with a cummins. Not only are you saving the countless hours and stress but you get a bigger truck and you are actually able to pull with it.

If you want a diesel truck, buy a diesel truck. Unless you really like fiddling around. It would be much easier to fit a 4 cylinder diesel in.

I do wish somebody would manufacture a small diesel pickup. Too bad the environmental restrictions are so tight on diesels here in the US.

The guy said it was a "W250". Basically, it's another truck with the Dakota's body on top.

Just read his comments now. Def would be easier putting the dakota body on the w250. You will never own another gas truck after you own a diesel! Before I bought my truck I figured out that im saving more money driving my big diesel than my small dakota that got 12mpg. Depends how im driving that tank but im going 400-500 miles on 25 gal of diesel. I could barely get 200-250 miles on 18 gal of gas. Im going 2 times the mileage for only 30.00 more. Plus the fact my truck is way faster, way more room, ability to tow 10k or more, and its not a crummy auto!

Isn't there a 4 cylinder Cummins called the 4bt?

I've heard of people putting them in Dakotas, even saw a youtube video of one swapped in a Crown Vic and a Ford Ranger.

Yes u can use the 4bt it's the same as the 5.9 only 2 less cylinder. Way easier to fit in a Dakota than the 6bt

I've got a 4bt in my '99 extended cab - getting about 27mpg using the NV4500. Swap details are in a thread on here entitled "4bt swap", I think. Fun to drive!
