Default Replacement? 97 Speedometer w/tachometer cluster

Icommute by bike yet one rainy day I decieded to hop in my 97 Dakota. Shortly after while on the freeway the gauges failed and the digital mileage readout went blinked continuously..

Since then it sometimes comes on and off very infrequently..

Is it just plug-and-play once I find another one to put in?

I appreciate all input. I also may have a bad ground since I have a lot of white residue on the red battery connector.. I doubt that would have affect on this though?? Since it ran fine as is when I got it...

i belive they are plug and play, i know the one on my 2000 dak is PNP.. i would also suggest installing new battery terminals.. corrosion on the terminals can/will eventually act as a resistor, hindering circuit flow, making it hard to start the truck
