Dakota Problem
Have you driven it since? Dodges always run like crap for a while after you disconnect the battery until the PCM "learns" the right settings.
When it stalls and you restart it and you have to use the pedal to keep it running. Does it fix itself after a little bit or do you need to restart it? When it would do it with my dakota I would drive the ***** off of it for about 2 min and then it was fine. Clean the throttle body and the sensors(use stuff safe for the sensors) Im betting its prob the iac tho.
To test for vacuum leak, pop the hood with it running a spray a fine mist of something like starting fluid etc over the vacuum lines and around the throttle body. If the engine idles up then you have a leak somewhere in that vicinity.

Got home and started it in park and it started normal, idled fine, reved it up a couple time and it recovered fine. Haven't drive it since because it sucks driving in town without being able to let off the gas.

It does sound like an IAC but i have already put 2 on the truck in about 2 months. What could make them go out so fast? Also when i first start the truck sometimes there is a hissing noise comming from the IAC but it usually goes away after a min or 2 of starting.
One More question. Does my truck have an egr Valve. I thought they quit putting them on their truck in 1996 but wasn't sure.
