Clicking Noise next to Battery on Idle

Default Clicking Noise next to Battery on Idle

I noticed a clicking noise coming from the small black part located under the fender right next to my battery when the car was idling.

It went on or so for around 5 minutes and then just stopped. If I put my finger on top of the part you could feel the clicking.

Does anyone know what this part is called and is it any concern?

Also, I have a slow brake fluid leak. Its winter and my truck is wet 24/7 so I can really locate the leak, is it something I can push off till summer?

I've only added brake fluid to it twice in a month.

It's the evaporative emissions purge solenoid. You can get a new one at Autozone for about $35.00. I would guess the OEM equivalent at Napa might cost more, or you can check the Dodge dealer too. Advance and maybe Autozone too also sell the right-angle rubber hoses that plug onto the solenoid, maybe it would be good to replace those while you are at it.

I would not ever take any kind of chances with the brakes. If it were my truck I would find and fix the brake fluid leak pronto. I would not drive the truck until the leak is fixed.

doesnt the solenoid purge at start up as part of the LDP process?

I think it's more likely to be the "duty cycle evap purge solenoid."

From the FSM:

During closed loop operation, the PCM cycles (energizes and de-energizes) the solenoid 5 or 10times per second, depending upon operating conditions. The PCM varies the vapor flow rate by changing solenoid pulse width. Pulse width is the amount of time that the solenoid is energized. The PCM adjusts solenoid pulse width based on engine operating condition.

On the brakes, don't hesitate. That's one item you really do need to make a priority repair on.
