my GUESS that its an I.D. is used at the factory so they can match the right parts to the right frame. all chryslers have I,D. tags, paint dabs, crayon marks all over on all the the car / truck. i have seen this on new car for ever. allso on the old carburetors should have a small tag on it, do NOT lose the tag. its more important than the carb.
I just found out that yes the 3.9 tag means that you have the 3.92 gears.
As for the other on I'm not sure.
The 3.92's are better than the 3.55's that were in my 02 full size ram with a 4.7. I ended up putting in 4.10's so I could tow a camping trailer with it. It was constantly searching for gears on the first sign of a grade.

All this time I thought I had 3.55s since this is what was on my build sheet sent to me from Chrysler.
Was refraining from adding 33's cause of it but I found out I actually have 3.92's so next set of reasonably priced tires (haha I'm Canadian, good luck!) and I'll be upgrading.
