Default 3.7 Thrashing

I own an '04 SXT 4x4 std. cab short bed with the 3.7L V-6, Auto and Continental Cross Contact LX 265/70-16 tires. I've looked through a number of catalogs and have yet to find either a bolt on exhaust (they're all for CC or QC trucks), or any other performance mods for the 3.7L. Also, are there any transmission shift kits available for the tranny? My major objectives are to increase fuel economy and power in the 2,000-3,000 rpm range, as it is always 'hunting' the right gear when cruising at 75-80 on the interstate. I usually just kick the overdrive out and put up with the 13 mpg. I also pull a 3,000 lb trailer from time to time and it seems to labor the engine far more than I'd expect, especially at highway speeds. Anyone have any suggestions aside from trading for a RAM 2500 with the Cummins?
