Default Differential Fluid Change?

Easy as pie.

3 quarts of Mobil 1 75w90 LS, 32.97 @ Advance Auto + coupon code A124 for a total of 22.97+ tax.

1 tube of RTV, you're favorite flavor. Some say to only use the stuff formulated for gear oil, I didn't.

Remove 12/10 bolts off the diff cover. (You have a big *** drain pan under there, right?)

Clean up the old RTV off the mating surfaces, and clean them with brake cleaner.

Follow the RTVs directions for re-install, fill with 2.1 quarts of oil. (mix the remaining oil with a Vodka and Seafoam for a delicious late night drink.)

What's wrong with spraying brake cleaner on the housing?

I read that you don't want to get any on the gears. I don't know if it's true or not, but I didn't want to risk it.

OK, I hadn't read that. I usually spray the brake cleaner all over everything inside to help clean out metal filings, etc.

Brake cleaner will not hurt anything I used it no problems just let it open air dry out for half an hour to be sure it’s all evaporated.

To get the oil mixed into the bearings I drove it very slowly around the block a few times.

I must be even OLDER SCHOOL because I prefer to use a gasket.

I prefer a gasket. Brake cleaner is a good degreaser shouldn't hurt anything. Just let it dry good and wipe it up good.

Did you seal the filler plug with something, or just pop it in when you were done?
