PCV grommet removal
My 3.9 has a grommet for the PCV valve in the left side valve cover with a hose that leads up to the manifold, and it has the same size grommet on the right side valve cover with another hose going up to the air cleaner hat. Both grommets and the PCV hose are over-saturated with oil. I would like to replace the grommets and the PCV hose but they will not pull out of the valve cover. Is there a trick to removing the grommets without removing the valve cover? Do they turn a certain way for removal or do you have to R&R the valve cover to get the grommets out? I checked my Service Manual but I could not find anything on it. The grommets must be a removable and replaceable part because Napa lists the grommets on their web site.
Thanks,
Jimmy

Jimmy,
You've been so helpful to me maybe I can finally return the favor?
I use a dental type tool or hook to remove grommets. Go right through the center and try to hook the outside edge of the grommet from inside the valve cover and start pulling.

Thanks fo rthe tip. I did a Google search on it and a lot of others have had to pry and pull hard to get the grommets out. I will get to it one night after work this week or maybe on Saturday. I have a thin film of oil that is collecting along the edges of both valve covers and can find no leaks other than these saturated grommets. The pcv hose is soaked pretty bad so I need to get it fixed soon.
Thanks.

I will say when I did mine the cover was off and I had it on the ground with my foot on it and it took a hell of a good hard pull and twist to get that damned thing off the cover.
At first I was like you How the hell do you get this thing out???
To get the new one in lube it with oil first or it will be almost as hard to get in and what worked best was grommet first then the PCV well on the 2.5 engine it’s just an elbow not a PCV

Well I did remove the breather grommet and element today, just had to pull real hard and they do come out. I cleaned the grommet with WD40 and lubed it with spray silicone, it appears to be in good shape and so is the element and the hose, so I just put them all back in place. I cleaned and lubed the PCV grommet as best I could without removing it, it appears to be in good shape too. Neither grommet was really oil saturated like I first thought they were. I did find a bad split in the end of the PCV hose at the manifold so I went to the Dodge dealer and bought a new hose for $10.00. I cleaned my valve covers and will monitor the grommets. If I see any oil seeping out the edges I will replace the grommets then, but so far doing fine for now.
Thanks for the help.
