Default Engine ping?

[IMG]https://dodgeforum.com/forum/IMAG0018.jpgI'm having the well known Dodge engine ping. I replaced the PCV valve which was a headache in itself. Nothing sounded any better. Here are some symptoms the truck is producing: Engine ping under acceleration, decreased gas mileage, smoke out the tail pipe, and obviously with the smoke means its sucking oil. I decided to try and find the oil leak and cleaned my engine with purple power. After driving a short distance after cleaning it up, I discovered fresh oil on the passenger side of the engine bay??

Open the throttle body and look into the bottom for oil.

I think you have the plenum gasket problem. You'll burn oil, make smoke, and ping with it.

Okay. Ive read up about it and was just hoping for a different answer . Guess Im just going to have to go through with getting the repair made. I appreciate your response. Do you think that is why my oil pressure always runs on the low side?

No. The plenum should not change your oil pressure.

Put a mechanical gauge on it and see what it really is. The stock gauges are not accurate.

Mine still pinged after I fixed the plenum the only way it would It stop is run supreme gass. I was seeing a lot about autolite 3923 spark plugs helping with pining so I put a set I holy crap what difference more power and I can run reg gas. You still should fix the plenum and your cat could be pulged from it burning oil.

do the stock gauges run high or low? just curious. At idle mine is pretty darn low, but at highway speed it's around the 12:30 position.

Both.

They aren't really that accurate, not calibrated by any means. Basically, your looking for a change in readings with them. If it usually reads one way then is different, somethings up.

What oil you have can change the readings too. Lower viscosity oil at idle will read less than a thicker oil.

Alright I appreciate all feedback. Next Im going to replace my oil sending unit and see if that doesnt cure my problem. I found out the oil coming out of my CAI and is blowing up the bay. Anybody else got any suggestions.
