Default friend giving bad advice?

I talked about my truck having these massive jerking and moments randomly back in a previous thread but I wanted to get another opinion before I rip apart the plenum (plus I can't even work on it yet due to the cold and snow) My truck will randomly jerk violently while I'm driving it. It can happen at any time whether I'm going fast or slow. I finally narrowed it down to the issue being a blown plenum causing misfires but I'm making this thread cause I was told by a friend that it probably isn't my plenum. He told me that the jerking isn't a misfire because I don't have any CELs in my truck even while its misfiring. He says that any misfire throws a CEL so therefore I can't be having a misfire.

I find this hard to believe and feel he doesn't know what he's talking about so I want a second opinion from you guys. I am in fact sure I have the stock plenum plate (I tested with a magnet) and from what it looks like I have some oil down there towards the upper part of the plenum. Also when I start the truck my exhaust seems to be very white and there is quite a bit of it (indicating to me I'm burning oil) Also the truck will "jerk" even when I'm not in gear and sitting still if I just rev it sometimes which shows me that it isn't the drive train.

The only reason I am slightly doubtful is because my buddy told me all obd2 dodge vehicles throw a CEL when they misfire. Mine is a 1998 so it would be in the obd2 catagory yet I have no CEL.

Thanks for any input guys. And sorry if I made a couple threads. I just want to have everything ready and order all the parts so I can start on my truck when it warms up and I am able to move around easily after I recover from surgery.

Mine would do that at random times. It turned out to be a lazy 0-2 sensor.
It didn't throw a code because it was just slow to react. Go figure... I replaced
It after driving the truck around with a scanner hooked up to it and you could
See it not responding as well at all the way it should have.

I don't pay much attention to the problems with those motors since I have a 4.7 so take this for what it's worth but when I first got my truck they steam cleaned the engine bay and fried the pcm. This caused the same thing you are describing BUT in my situation it was throwing random codes so it sounds different.
