I have a 2002 Dakota 3.9 4x4 with the 355 gears in my front differential. Mine leaked and ran dry with the previous owner so I picked a used one up at a salvage yard. I'm trying to replace the seals on the new one I picked up but can't figure out how to get the pinion shaft out of the case. I want to pull the spline shafts out and replace the seals on each side of the case since I have it out... my Haynes manual says to remove it but doesn't say how! There seems to be a pin or something going through one side of the shaft but its just a hollow hole and I can't really see anything but light on the other side. Any help would be much appreciated!
