Default Redlining before shift

2000 Dakota R/T 60000 Miles, all stock

Redlining before shift

I noticed one day that if I got on it WOT that I would redline before shifting. I figured I had a tranny problem so I changed the filter and oils. The problem was still there. I started scouring the forum and ended up trying to adjust the TV cable. No matter the position I still redline. What are your suggestion on where I start looking next?

Any and all help will be appreciated

Thanks,
-Keith

when i put in my fastman tb he told me to turn the truck to on, don't start, and after the lights stop push the gas pedal to the floor slowly then let it up and the start it. if that doesn't work the trans shop told me to adjust the tps voltage. there is a thread on here about that.

I also have this "connector" looking thing hanging by the TB cable at the tranny. It doesn't seem to go anywhere...any ideas of what it is?

I thought at WOT its only supposed to shift at redline? Every automatc dakota I test drove from 97 to 02 did it.

What they said. Now if it SITS on the limiter and doesn't shift till you let off, then you have a problem.

Sorry, the only way it will shift is if I let off the throttle and ease back into it.

What I meant by redline was the rev limiter kicks in and I have to let off to get it to shift.

I'm sure it's not a coincidence that after work today it did nothing but slip into gear, reverse and all forward gears. I'm pretty sure it was my terrible job at adjusting the TB cable.

A correctly adjusted throttle valve cable will cause the throttle lever on the transmission to move simul- taneously with the throttle body lever from the idle position. Proper adjustment will allow simultaneous movement without causing the transmission throttle lever to either move ahead of, or lag behind the lever on the throttle body.

Okay, throttle body lever and the lever on the tranny are in absolute sync. (had to use a camcorder, long AV cables and a TV to verify it but it is done.) Still have the rev limiter kicking in and some funny shifts happening.

What would you recommend next...pressure reg, speed sensor, band adjustment?

I know you have seen the questions hundreds of times and I appreciate you all putting up with me.

Thanks,
-Keith
