when i did lift on my dodge i used huge c clamp to hold the key while loosing it. it can kill you with all the tension it has even with the wheels off the ground.
well with the rear i was trying to put the blocks on and the leaf springs wont come up at all. any thoughts?
Jack the truck way up high and support it with jack stands under the frame. Remove the u-bolts on one side and loosen them a little on the other. Let the axle down some (with the floor jack) and the one side should separate from the spring. You may have to take the wheel off to let it droop far enough.
When you have the block in and the u-bolts lightly snugged up, repeat for the other side. Tighten everything up, let the truck sit on the springs, and torque the all the u-bolts to spec. Recheck after a couple of days.
they still wont come up tom theres a hex bolt it looks like going through the leaf springs and connecting into that sorta flat pad where the block would sit on that axle
The spring center bolt should have a round head on it that serves as a locating pin to center it on the spring perch. It should come right out of the perch, but rust may be making it difficult. You should not be able to see a hex head on the bottom side of the perch, just a round nub.
It's possible that somebody replaced the spring center bolt with a "regular" bolt, but I don't know how they would have inserted it up from the bottom of the pad. If that's the case, you'll need to clamp the leaf spring on both sides of the bolt with c-clamps and remove the bolt. The clamps will keep the leaves from springing apart.
I've done that job countless times, though, and I've never seen anything like I'm picturing yours to be.
You would have to take the nut off the top. Then it should drop out of the spring pack and you can cut it to remove it. But it would have had to be installed before the perches were welded to the axle, which makes no sense. Are you the original owner of the truck?
