Default Something is loose in suspension...

Having an issue with my 99 R/T CC. The steering itself doesnot feel loose when moved side to side, or going around corners, but somethingin the chassis suspension feels loose or worn out. I have replaced the sway barend links and shocks (albeit with poor quality Monroe, which bounce around alot and will be replaced eventually), but no luck on curing the problem.Essentially, the left front feels like it is bouncing around and isn’t smooth, especially on rougher roads and there is some faint “bumping” noise. When goingthrough ruts in roads, or over bots dots, I hear a rattle/clanking. More over, when I hit some of the deeper ruts on the freeway, I get a wobble, or a bit ofinstability. I can deal with it, but its very annoying. No abnormal tire wear.Any ideas? Ball joint boots all look ok and seem like they may have been replacedat one time (they all have zert fittings). I am starting to wonder about thecontrol arm bushings. 132,000 miles.

yup, I'd start looking at control arm bushings.

Alright, I will have to start looking.

I will probably get some time next week. This is my dailydriver, to keep miles off my 67 Polara and 73 Duster.

If it is the UCA or LCA bushings, am I in any imminentdanger by driving it?

I had a simialr issue on my '03 Quad Cab. It turned out to be the sway bar to body bushings. They were literally elliptical shaped! Replaced those and the end links and all was tight.

just look at the bushings and you'll know if they need replacing or not. Either they'll be cracked and elliptical, or soft and round. Nothing bad, but you will start to get funny noises and tire wear because the camber of the tires will start moving around. I had a shop do the lower (PITA) with intentions of doing the uppers myself, but havent got to them yet. I have a 1/8" tread difference across the left front tire and right front is okayish.

Sway end links are done, but haven’t replaced the sway barto frame connection bushings. A good shake of the sway bar with hands doesn’t verifythose being bad, at least initially.

I may pull the left front wheel off again and check all of the bolts holding the upper and lower control arms to the frame. I just remembered that the previous owner had replaced the control arms at one time before I got it from him.

Can new bushings be pressed into the Control arm or you have to buy a new control arm? Do the local parts store carry the bushings that will fit if so?

Bushings can be pushed in and are available at parts stores. Some jist choose to replace the entire control arm assembly.
