Default reverse lights blow fuse

Hey guys. This is my first post. I have a quick question and was just looking for a few oponioms I noticed awhile back that my reverse lights dont come on, so I went and bought new bulbs, went to go replace them and... What the hell? The old bulbs are perfectly fine.. So i checked the fuse and sure enough, its blown. I put a new fuse in, popped it in reverse (manual trans.) And I here the fuse pop again. Obviously a short, but were do I start looking? Could it possibly be the reverse light switch on the transmisson is bad?
Thanks for any oponions.

It could be the switch or the wiring downstream of the switch. Do you have an ohmmeter? If so, disconnect the connector from the switch and check for continuity from either side of the switch to ground. If it has any, it's bad. The switch should only have continuity across itself while in reverse.

Do you have the automatic dimming mirror? How about a factory trailer package? Both of these are run off the backup light circuit. Try removing both bulbs, checking the sockets thoroughly, then seeing if the fuse blows - still without bulbs in.

I've got a multimeter somewhere, i'll have to see if I can dig it up. And yes, i have an auto-dim mirror (that explains why its never worked..). I'll check that stuff out and let you know what I find. Thank you for your reply.
