Default New decals. I messed them up

I got some new decals last October and have been waiting ever since to put them on. The weather was finally nice enough in Wisconsin today to finally get them on. Just like the title says I messed up. I thought I took my time and did a good job but after I pulled the paper off there was air bubbles and wrinkles that I couldn't stand or get out. I spent over an hour and a half on the one side and finally gave up. I'm lucky that my mom had them made at her work and I can get another for cheap but I think I'm just gonna pay someone to put them on right next time. I'm pretty mad at myself for messing this up and needed to vent. If anyone has any tips or tricks for doing something like this I'd be glad to listen.

Seems like counterproductive, but the trick to applying decals like that is to mist or even soak the area with water. That keeps it from sticking right away, then you can move it around and set it without it grabbing like it's the end of the world. Then you use something like a rubber putty knife to squeeze out the water. I used to apply all of the decals on the leased vans our store had at my last job, so I have quite a bit of experience under my belt haha.

I guess that makes sense. Window tint works pretty much the same way. All I did with this is get it started and used an old plastic credit card while working my way down trying to keep the air out. I've done small decals this way before and didn't have a problem but I think the air bubbles and wrinkles that were in this were horrible.

Ill have to try the water with a decal on something smaller cause I really don't want to ruin another decal of this size

I like to use a heavy piece of rubber when applying tint or decals. You have to work slowly and do little bits at a time.
