Default Average mpg?

I have a 2002 quad cab 4x4 3.9L and I tested my mpg by filling it up a certain amount after the gas light and then let it run down to the se miles after the gas light and I came up with 15.3 mpg. Does this sound right?

That's not necessarily the most accurate way to measure it, but that number doesn't sound too far off.

www.fuelly.com is a great tool to monitor and track gas mileage. After you create your profile all you do is write down your mileage from the odometer every time you fill up and enter it on their site. It keeps track of lots of different mpg data. I have been using it for a few years now. I am getting 18 to 18.5 in mixed city/highway driving right now. My mpg is up by a couple because I am no longer working at home so I don't do as much stop and go driving or short trips. I have to commute 20 miles one way and the route is mostly country roads where I only can go 55-60 mph and that is if I don't get stuck behind an orange hauling truck, a concrete mixer truck or some farmer on his tractor.

My '99 2WD club cab gets about 16 around town and 23 on a 55-65MPH pine barrens drive, my grandpa's '00 3.9 auto 4X4 regular cab gets about 13 in town. You're probably not far off and it's not bad for a 3.9 hauling around that 4X4 quad cab.

Not only is it not the most accurate, but it's an insane when you consider all you have to do is fill it up one more time to get something much much closer in terms of accuracy.

I don't know where people's struggle with this comes from: Fill tank completely, drive until you get on E, fill tank completely, (miles driven)/(gallons used) miles/allon or miles per gallon or MPG...It's not like we're trying to get a man on the moon or anything...
