Whine/ shreak while coasting
hey guys, im new to this forum. But I'm the proud owner of a 2004 quad cab sport with the 4.7L named boo. I'm sure ill cave in and post some pics later. It had a few mods on it when I bought it, an air intake and an exhaust along with 2.5 in blocks in the rear and higher shocks in the front along with beefier tires(cant remember the numbers but I believe they are 32's)
anyways the truck runs great except for this awful shriek while im driving. it only happens when I coast (foot on pedal, foot off you get the idea) just maintaining a steady speed. It sounds like terrible brakes when i tap the gas but obviously its not because im not hitting the breaks. it only happens when my foot goes back on the gas.
I've read on the ram forums this can be from the trans cooler? is it the same for the dakotas as well? I also think it could be the intake? maybe something is stuck in there or something? but its only at real low rpms when I'm barely touching the gas pedal

I'm thinking it's the air intake. Try going down a deserted road and shutting the engine off, don't lock the steering! Then you'll know if it's engine causing it since it seems load dependent.
I can't see a tranny cooler causing any noise unless there is a restriction in it. I think torque converter would be more likely but try the intake first.

Is it more of a whistle sound? And is it temperature-dependent?
I know my air intake will make a whistling sound when coasting (foot on pedal maintaining speed) but it only ever happens in the colder temperatures for me.
Completely harmless but annoying.

yes, more of a high pitches whistle like when your brakes are on their last leg. I have only owned this truck in the summer so I dont know how it does in the cold yet, i know my intake whistles a little too but thats not nearly as bad as this
